Technical Sales Engineer

Diss, Norfolk

£50,000 - £55,500 depending on experience + Company Car/Car Allowance + Company Performance Bonus

Monday - Friday, 8.00am - 4.30pm

If you know your way around an engineering or fabrication environment and have the commercial confidence to turn a customer problem into a practical solution, this could be a very good next move.

Michelle Denny Recruitment is recruiting a Technical Sales Engineer for Styne Group in Diss, combining technical sales, new business development, customer relationships, site surveys and estimating.

This isn't about selling a standard product range. You'll develop your own portfolio of customers, prospect for new opportunities and build relationships, while also working with existing customers to identify where Styne can help.

From there, you'll get into the technical detail - understanding the requirement, surveying the site, developing the right solution and putting together the proposal and quotation.

Why this role matters

Styne works with customers across a wide range of engineering, fabrication and manufacturing requirements, so no two enquiries will necessarily look the same.

You'll be the link between the customer and Styne's technical teams, taking an initial conversation or problem and helping turn it into something practical, deliverable and commercially viable.

There's also a genuine business development element to the role. You'll be expected to create opportunities rather than simply wait for enquiries to arrive, building your own customer portfolio and taking ownership of your sales pipeline.

What you'll be doing

  • Prospecting for new business and identifying potential customers and opportunities

  • Building and managing your own portfolio of customer relationships

  • Developing existing accounts while generating new business

  • Visiting customer sites to understand requirements and carry out surveys

  • Gathering measurements, photographs and technical information to develop solutions

  • Working with Styne's engineering, fabrication, electrical and controls teams

  • Preparing estimates and quotations covering equipment, materials, labour and subcontracted work

  • Producing technical proposals, specifications and scopes of work

  • Obtaining supplier quotations and confirming costs and lead times

  • Explaining technical solutions to customers in a clear and practical way

  • Following up quotations and managing opportunities through the sales process

  • Supporting the handover of successful projects to the wider Styne team

What you'll bring

You'll need a good practical understanding of engineering or fabrication, alongside the commercial confidence to develop relationships and win business.

We're particularly interested in people who can demonstrate:

  • Experience in technical sales, business development or a commercially focused engineering role

  • A sound understanding of mechanical engineering, fabrication or related technical environments

  • Confidence in prospecting, developing new business and managing customer relationships

  • The ability to understand technical requirements and translate them into practical solutions

  • Experience preparing or contributing to estimates, quotations and proposals

  • Good communication, organisation and commercial judgement

  • The confidence to work independently while collaborating with technical colleagues

  • A full UK driving licence

You might already be working in technical sales, or perhaps you're from an engineering or estimating background and have developed a strong commercial focus. What's important is that you're comfortable with both the technical and business development sides of the role.

What's on offer

  • Salary of £50,000 - £55,500 depending on experience

  • Company car or car allowance

  • Annual company performance bonus

  • 25 days annual leave plus BH

  • Monday - Friday, 8.00am - 4.30pm

  • A varied role combining customer visits, technical problem-solving and commercial development

  • The opportunity to build and manage your own customer portfolio

  • Close working relationships with experienced engineering and fabrication teams

The role will involve a mixture of customer visits and time at Styne's Diss office. Particularly while you're getting to know the business, its capabilities and the wider team, you'll need to be comfortable being office based when you're not out visiting customers.

Interested?

If you enjoy the technical side of engineering but also get satisfaction from developing customer relationships and winning new business, we'd be pleased to hear from you.
