Seven days of networking, growth & exciting news!

It’s been a busy week for the team at Michelle Denny Recruitment Consultancy (MDR Consultancy). We’ve been out and about, actively engaging with our local business community and supporting our connections. From networking at the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce Safari Networking Event at Hintlesham Golf Club, to taking part in the Mid-Suffolk Business Exhibition 2025 - we’ve had a packed agenda and here are our highlights.

The Safari Networking Events

were great opportunities to meet business owners and leaders from across our region in a relaxed and engaging setting. The first was held at Hintlesham Golf Club; the event was all about creating connections, with a format that had us changing tables every 20 minutes!

It was very well attended & full of energy and we enjoyed every minute of it. A big thank you to the team at Hintlesham Golf Club for hosting such a great gathering.

It’s always so rewarding to see how these gatherings bring businesses together and strengthen our local community.

Next, we turned our attention to the Mid-Suffolk Business Exhibition, where we had a great time engaging with fellow exhibitors and attendees. Our ‘Name the Bunny’ competition was a huge hit, attracting over 60 guesses as people tried to name our giant Lindt Gold Bunny. The competition was fierce, but in the end, Mark Robinson, WPM Ltd was the lucky winner, correctly naming the bunny 'Beatrix'. And Cassandra Fisher, Eastern Education Group ,wasn’t far behind and claimed her slightly smaller, but equally delicious, bunny as a well-deserved runner-up prize.

We may or may not have snuck a bunny for ourselves, but hey, someone had to check the quality, right?

Events like these are an integral part of what we do at MDR Consultancy. We’re not just here to place the right talent in the right roles, we’re also committed to building and supporting the local business community. Being active in these events and fostering relationships with local professionals helps us stay connected and better understand the needs of businesses. This week was a perfect reminder of how important these connections are and how much we can achieve by working together.

Spring Statement 2025

As we reflect on the current economic climate, it’s hard to ignore the challenges that many businesses are facing. The recent Spring Statement didn’t offer immediate relief for businesses in our region, especially with the new wave of business taxes set to take effect in the coming months. According to Suffolk Chamber’s Quarterly Economic Survey, business activity and sentiment have both taken a hit, and businesses are feeling the pressure.

Our region has always shown incredible resilience, and while the statement didn’t provide all the answers, there is still hope for the future. The government’s tax roadmap is still unclear, and while national insurance and business rate reductions would certainly help, businesses are still waiting for greater clarity on these matters. However, the news of potential infrastructure projects, like the Ely/Haughley rail junctions, being included in the Spending Review this June, gives us optimism. These projects could offer the kind of investment in our local infrastructure that will be vital for business growth in the future.

Looking at the bigger picture, the government’s push for expanded housebuilding and increased defence spending may create procurement opportunities for local businesses, which is positive. The forecast for growth over the medium-term also provides hope that businesses can hold on and position themselves for the future, even if the road ahead seems tough.

At MDR Consultancy, we’re committed to helping our region’s businesses not only navigate the current economic landscape but also plan for what’s ahead. Talent acquisition, workforce planning, and business development are all key components of our approach to supporting businesses. We know that these times of uncertainty can be tough, but by sticking together and supporting one another, we can continue to thrive.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to continue engaging with our local business community. One upcoming event we’re particularly looking forward to is the Diss Business Forum on Thursday May 15th. It’s a great opportunity to meet business owners and leaders to share ideas and be part of a supportive and vibrant business network. If you haven’t registered yet, make sure you do so! You can find the details and book your place here.

We’d love to see you there and continue building on the connections we’ve made over the past few weeks.

More news to come...

As we wrap up the busy last week, we also have a bit of personal news to share. Our MD, Michelle Denny has secured a new role that will further enable us to support the local community. While we can’t share all the details just yet, we’re thrilled about the opportunities this position will bring, and we can’t wait to share more with you soon. Stay tuned for updates – we promise it’ll be worth the wait.

In the meantime, we’ll continue working hard to support local businesses through recruitment, workforce planning, and other strategic services.
