Strength in Service: Michelle Denny Visits Citizens Advice Thetford

Last week, newly appointed Non-Executive Directors Michelle Denny and Mario Anastasiades, visited Citizens Advice Thetford along with the team to welcome High Sheriff of Norfolk Patrick Lines and Deputy Lieutenant Han Yang along with businessman and Thetford advocate, Jo Pearson.

This special visit marked Michelle’s first time at the Thetford branch since joining the Board of Citizens Advice Diss, Thetford & District, and an important step in deepening her understanding of the people and place the service supports.

Having built a strong relationship with the team in Diss, Michelle was eager to meet the volunteers and staff working on the ground in Thetford, a community facing rising need and increasing complexity of challenges.

“The warmth and dedication of the team in Thetford absolutely shone through,” said Michelle. “What moved me most were the stories shared by volunteers, these amazing people who have faced real adversity, found strength through support, and then have chosen to give their time to help others. There’s something incredibly powerful in that cycle of care. It’s what makes this CADAT so special, and it’s a privilege to be part of it.”

The visit provided a valuable opportunity for open discussion with advisors and the team about the daily pressures faced by those turning to Citizens Advice. From cost-of-living struggles to complex housing and employment issues, the team works tirelessly to ensure people don’t face these challenges alone.

Citizens Advice Diss, Thetford & District supports thousands of individuals each year, and while the service is totally free at the point of need, it costs around £600,000 annually to run. That support translates into more than £20 million in public value through financial gain, health benefits, and community wellbeing.

Many of the volunteers delivering that impact are themselves living proof of the service’s value having once walked through the door for help and now standing behind it to offer the same.
