Diss Business Forum: A New Chapter for Our Business Community

We know that business doesn’t stop at the town boundary.
There’s no shortage of brilliant businesses in and around Diss. From established names to exciting new ventures, there’s a real energy across our local economy. But we know that business doesn’t stop at the town boundary.
At this month’s Diss Business Forum Breakfast, we came together to look ahead - at how we can create a more connected, inclusive and useful space for businesses right across the wider region.

Why now?
With MDR Consultancy, Scrutton Bland and Durrants Estate Agents now forming the Forum’s steering group, we’ve been working behind the scenes to shape what comes next.
The Forum has always been a place to meet, share and support. But we want to go further. Not just networking for the sake of it - but a platform for learning, collaboration, and genuine connection between people who care about growing their businesses and their community.
That means events with purpose. Conversations that matter. A space where businesses of all sizes and stages feel welcome - and where we can support each other, not just in trade, but in ideas, mentorship, community, and shared challenges.
Our thanks go to George Berry of Durrants, who shared timely insight into the local housing property markets.
From shifts in buyer confidence to changing needs, George offered a grounded and realistic view of what’s happening in the region and why it matters - especially for businesses planning their next move, hiring, or investment decisions.
It was a clear reminder: we don’t operate in isolation. The strength of the business community is tied to the infrastructure, confidence and growth of the place we call home.
Your voices, your ideas
One of the most valuable parts of the event came not from the speakers, but from the people in the room.
We invited attendees to share their thoughts - big or small - about what they’d like the Forum to become. Post-it notes covered the table with everything from topic suggestions and speaker ideas to practical changes in how we run events.
The input was honest, encouraging and full of potential. It’s clear there’s an appetite for something more - and we’re excited to build that together.
We’re currently reviewing all of the feedback and will be sending out a short survey once we’ve drawn the key themes together.
Couldn’t make it? You can still get involved
This isn’t a closed group. The Forum is open to all businesses - whether you’ve been trading for decades or are just starting out.
If you’d like to be added to the mailing list and stay updated on future events, conversations and opportunities to contribute, send us a direct message and we’ll make sure you’re included.
And yes, once we’ve processed all the brilliant ideas from the breakfast session, we’ll be inviting wider input through a short survey - so watch this space.
Looking ahead
From peer learning to charitable partnerships, local knowledge-sharing to meaningful community collaboration - the Forum has the potential to be much more than a room of introductions.
If you’re running a business - or building one - and want to be part of something that makes this region better connected, better informed and better supported, we’d love to have you in the room.
We’re just getting started.
